Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.  -Rumi

This quote is a beautiful expression of my goal as a mental health care provider. This is a longstanding theme in my work and at the root of most of my client’s struggling and suffering. This is always in the back of my mind when working with clients. I use my experience to help clients uncover their unique barriers. It’s important to not only explore and learn about how to reduce what we don’t want but also how to accept and create more of what we do want.

I feel a very strong personal pull and commitment to being a therapist. When I was a young adult, I struggled with panic attacks. At that time in my life, my parents were divorcing, I was being emotionally abused, and every major relationship in my life was in flux. I built extensive barriers around myself and ended up feeling very alone and empty. I used shame to keep my barriers up by telling myself that I didn’t care and didn’t need anyone. My panic attacks were my wake-up call that things had to change. Deciding to see a therapist was one of the best moves I ever made. My therapist was able to help me change my relationship to my emotions and gave me direction for my life and an eventual career. I moved on from that experience with a completely different understanding of myself and with a new respect for my emotional needs. I can’t say I’ve reached self-actualization, but I can confidentially say I am free from panic attacks and have been able to learn how to remove many of the barriers that kept me isolated.

I was inspired by the care I received and decided to change my college major to psychology. I received my undergraduate degree for Michigan State University in 2000 and completed my Master of Social Work degree from Wayne State University in 2003. I spent much of my early career specializing in substance abuse, leading the HPRP (Health Professional Recovery Program) program at Dearborn and Livonia Eastwood Clinics. As the years passed, my professional path has led me to work primarily with issues such as mood disorders, trauma/abuse, and marriage/divorce struggles.

Most recently, I have been inspired to extend my work by volunteering in the Novi Public School system. I am actively involved in the Novi Mental Health Alliance.  This experience has led me to increase my knowledge of shame and its detrimental impact on mental health/relationships, creativity, and our ability to learn. I am currently creating and supporting a program for teachers that helps them work towards improving the classroom culture.  This program is designed to help reduce shame, toxic perfectionism, and bullying.

I graduated with honors and received my master’s degree in Clinical Behavioral Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. Making that initial call and decision to seek out help can be hard. The struggle and difficulties of living with anxiety, depression, substance use disorder, and trauma can often be crippling. I have prided myself on making this process a nurturing and collaborative experience. I recognized my passion for behavioral health psychology at an early age. I have always worked towards and prided myself on helping others find out how to be their best selves.

I have experience working with children and adults. My specialties include depression, anxiety, trauma, anger management, substance use disorders, ADHD, adjustment disorders, chronic pain, and grief. Prior to working at the Eisenhower - Addiction Recovery Center, I worked with the University of Michigan and Ann Arbor VA for Clinical Management Research in helping individuals grappling with addictions, chronic pain, and suicidality. My treatment approaches are based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness Based Interviewing (MBCT Motivational). I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, reading, traveling, and challenging myself to experience new adventures. I would be honored to help you in your personal journey of recovery and healing.

A satisfied life is better than a successful life.  Success is measured by others, but our satisfaction is measure by our own soul, mind and heart,” (The Minds Journal)

My passion is to help clients uncover the best aspects and versions of themselves. I strive to make therapy a meaningful experience.  My goal is to provide a safe, secure, and non-judgmental environment. I genuinely support clients in processing the issues that brought them into therapy and have disrupted them from thriving and living a full, joy-filled life with hope, purpose and satisfaction.

Life purpose consists of the essential motivating objectives of your life, the reasons you get up in the morning. I feel life purpose guides decisions, influences behavior, shapes goals, offers a sense of direction, and creates meaning.  It is in exploring one’s thoughts, feelings, values and relationships we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our purpose.

I am a graduate of the University of Detroit-Mercy, earning both a Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree with a concentration In Addiction Studies and Psychopharmacology.  Prior to this, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wayne State University.

I have worked with a wide range of populations, including children, adolescents, and adults. I have experience counseling individuals and families in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

I would classify my style of treatment as strengths-based and person-centered.  I utilize psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive behavioral, and integrative therapies. I also always customized my approach to fit client’s individual needs and goals. I have intensive training in psychotherapy, enabling me to facilitate client’s awareness of how biological, social, and psychological factors influence our overall health and well-being.  I am skilled in providing treatment for variety of mental health conditions, such as self-esteem issues, parenting issues, relationship issues, depression, anxiety or fears, adjustment disorders, personality disorders, as well as substance abuse and dependence

I grew up in a home where abuse occurred on many levels. Feelings in my home were not acknowledged or allowed. By the age of 18, I ended up struggling with my own feelings of depression and fallout from the years of trauma, which included a battle with substance abuse and eating disorders.  Not knowing anything about therapy, a friend’s aunt referred me to a therapist. Over time, with this therapist, I was able to heal and began believing in my goals and dreams and working towards them. It led me down the path that I’m on today, one in which I’m able to use my 30 years of sobriety, life and professional experience to help others.

My goal as a therapist is to create a safe and non-judgmental atmosphere where my client and I can work collaboratively to explore and improve areas of concern that are impeding growth, functioning and happiness. I also aim to teach skills and techniques which my client can use once they leave the therapy office. My approach is to use a person-centered philosophy of care and to integrate various therapeutic modalities to best meet the unique needs of each client. I believe that wellness encompasses the five dimensions of a human–physical, mental/intellectual, emotional, spiritual and relational. I use approaches that take into account our multidimensional nature.

I work with adults, age 18+ both individually and in groups. My clinical interests and experience include substance abuse recovery, binge eating disorder and bulimia, depression, PTSD, life transitions (especially divorce), grief and loss, trauma and sexual trauma, and anxiety/stress management.

In addition to utilizing more traditional therapies such as CBT and DBT, my life experiences and personal healing journey motivated me to get additional training in the following areas:  inner child work, hypnotherapy, career counseling and using faith/spirituality in recovery.  I also have a special interest in the creative arts and find that involvement with the arts helps many clients to express themselves more genuinely and to live more authentically.

I believe therapy works best when you feel safe enough to be fully yourself — not just the polished version, but the overwhelmed, stuck, uncertain, and still-figuring-it-out parts too. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the understanding that healing doesn’t justhappen in our thoughts — it also happens in our bodies, relationships, and lived experiences.

My path to this work is deeply personal. I experienced chronic anxiety for as long as I can remember, along with depression that began in my early teens. For years, I engaged in traditional talk therapy and tried different medications, hoping something would create lasting change. While some approaches helped in pieces, I often still felt stuck in the same internal patterns. I was frequently told that I was very insightful and aware of my experiences, and while that awareness felt true, it did not necessarily lead to meaningful shifts. It wasn’t until I began Somatic Experiencing as a client myself that things started to shift in a meaningful way. Learning to understand my nervous system and how stress lived in my body changed not only how I felt, but how I moved through the world. I began to process emotions in a healthier way and expand my capacity to tolerate difficult experiences. At the time, I was on a path toward working in environmental sustainability, but after experiencing this kind of healing firsthand, I felt called to support others in a similar way. This ultimately led me to pursue a Master’s in Social Work and additional training in Somatic Experiencing, which now shape the approach I bring into the therapy room today.

I am trained in Somatic Experiencing, a body-based approach that helps us understand how stress, anxiety, and past experiences can live in the nervous system. Together, we might slow things down, notice patterns, and build a greater sense of safety and regulation from the inside out. I also integrate elements of cognitive and relational approaches, tailoring sessions to what feels most supportive and useful for you.

In Somatic Experiencing work, we may gently explore how emotions show up physically — such as tension, restlessness, heaviness, or shut down — and learn how to respond with more awareness and care. Sessions often involve slowing down, building resources, and working at a manageable pace. The goal is not to relive difficult experiences, but to help your nervous system process stress in a way that supports greater stability, resilience, and a sense of safety in daily life.
